In 2014, our world changed forever when our first daughter, Tiffany, was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus—a condition we knew nothing about but quickly became our reality. Within hours of her birth, Tiffany underwent emergency surgery to correct her spine, followed by brain surgery for a VP shunt placement for hydrocephalus. It was a whirlwind of emotions, fear, and hope as we faced the unknown.

Hydrocephalus is a chronic neurological condition that affects the brain, causing an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This fluid buildup creates pressure on the brain, leading to a host of challenges that Tiffany has bravely faced every day of her life.

In simple terms: we all have fluid in our brains (CSF), for people without hydrocephalus our bodies drain that fluid naturally throughout our bodies. For a person with hydrocephalus this does not happen on its own, they need a shunt to drain this fluid from their brain to the rest of their body.

In 2024, Tiffany's strength was tested once again when she experienced a severe shunt malfunction, causing a dangerous buildup of CSF in her neck. She had to undergo another surgery to replace the old VP shunt with a new system. Watching her endure this with such courage has been both heartbreaking and inspiring. Tiffany is the bravest soul I’ve ever known, and her resilience fuels our fight to raise awareness and support for those affected by Hydrocephalus.

Together, we’ve created this candle not just as a symbol of our journey, but as a beacon of hope for others. A portion of every sale will be donated to The Hydrocephalus Association, an organization dedicated to finding a cure and improving the lives of those living with Hydrocephalus.
